No plans this weekend? Lucky Bay Area residents and visitors have a plethora of art and culture events to choose from on both Saturday and Sunday. Here are our top three picks:

• This Saturday, November 16, Academy of Art University hosts the most highly anticipated emerging art charity event of the year: the 12th Annual Faculty & Alumni Fine Art Auction. In partnership with Bonhams & Butterfields, you can support emerging student artists by bidding on works by some of the finest internationally collected artists that call San Francisco and the surrounding region home. With over seventy Faculty and Alumni Artists participating across the disciplines of Painting, Jewelry, Photography, and Sculpture, both the Live and Silent Auctions will provide a magnificent spectrum of technique, medium, and mood. Location: 79 Gallery, 79 New Montgomery, San Francisco

• Local artists Patrik Kusek and Sherry Cordova are teaming up to organize ‘Artists on the Verge,’ Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM -6 PM. Kusek and Cordova have both been given a taste of international recognition this year and agree that they are both on the verge of something. At this exciting event meet with the artists, see their new and exciting collections. Find unique one-of-a-kind jewelry, handcrafted and limited edition pieces. Get a head start on holiday shopping! • THE FEEL GOODS, Saturday, November 17 from 10 PM – 2 AM is an event that intertwines art, music, and fashion. Featuring pieces and grooves from some of San Francisco’s illest artists & dj’s, as well as a showcase of exclusive designs from the one of Vancouver’s top indie designers. You don’t want to miss this! Location: age song gallery, 580 Hayes St., San Francisco

For those of you who like a fine cup of coffee paired with work from some of the best local artists, checking out Non Sequitur at Ritual Coffee Roasters is a must. The exhibit even features work from Academy of Art University alumni Micke Tong!

The exhibit, guest curated by Sacha Eckes, consists of all work that is framed in white, 20×20” frames. Each artist created about 3 pieces that are installed a few inches from each other. The show is a sequential piece of art, an installation as it were. Eches titled each work in the exhibit using a sentence of a text.

Horror enthusiasts take note – MORE BRAINS! Zombie II exhibit is coming to the Space Gallery in San Francisco on Dec. 1. Better yet, they are accepting submissions until November 22nd so rent Night of the Living Dead and get inspired.

The show features work from Academy alum/faculty David Young V, Brandy Grogan, Nikki Sass, C-3 and Aron Meynell as well as musician and Hollywood horror director extraordinaire, Rob Zombie.

Academy of Art University illustration school alum Derek Kirk Kim is featured in an article about up-and-coming Asian graphic novelists. His first collection, Same Difference and Other Stories, won the comic trifecta: the Eisner, Harvey and Ignatz awards and was also named of the Publisher’s Weekly’s Best Books of 2003. His first full-length novel, Good as Lily, is a fantasy with magical-realism elements. Kim calls it his “’80s movies homage.” Kim is lauded in the article as the “future of Asian American literature today.”
